Collage as a meditative practice, 2015–2016
I started cutting images from magazines and books as a meditative practice. Soon after I started I was intrigued by my unconscious choices to choose one image and not another. In this process I followed my intuition and arrived at a kind of image-archive. From this archive I started to select images into different themes or topics. It was important for me throughout the process to keep an innocent mind-set, I didn't want to project artistic ideas onto my collection. But at a certain point the desire rose to 'do' something with the images, to mix them up. I started collaging in the themes divided in faces and houses. While collaging it is still important to me that I don't follow an idea, but that the craft, the making with the hands, comes from an empty, contemplative state of being.
